Virgin goes for web-surfing with vLink CDMA usb modem

This is why, Virgin Mobile in its recent move has announced yesterday its entry into the data segment with the launch of vLink - to which it claims to be the first dual purpose device used for CDMA usb modem and 1 GB data storage card. It comes with a pre-installed software in the memory thus no CD require for installation and is priced at Rs. 2100. And with a one month free unlimited Internet introductory offer.

Virgin explains this device is made for youths as  Madhusudan, Chief Executive Officer, Virgin Mobile India said ” With 44 percent of the total internet population in India within the age bracket of 19-24 years, web has become an integral part of youth’s lifestyle as they spend a significant amount of time online. As per industry estimates, out of the total PC sales in the country, 32 percent of the customers are still not connected to the Internet. Of the remaining 68 percent, only a small percentage has the flexibility of being mobile. vLink will offer instant connectivity on the move to the style conscious youth, be it students, professionals, SMBs or SOHOs. We have extended the functionality of a modem and clubbed it with data storage capability of upto 1GB. It is a carry-along device that will allow users to access Internet anywhere as well as store their music, photos, videos etc.”

This service is offered with a tarrif plan of Rs. 801 per month for unlimited Internet usage (Applicable only after one month introductory period) or The Rs. 349 monthly plan whose usage rates are 25p/min from 8 am-10 pm and 13p/min from 10 pm-8 am, which gets deducted from the Rs. 349 users pay per month. This plan also offers users the benefit of rolling over unutilized balance to the next month making it the first unutilized balance roll over facility for data usage in the Indian market.

But as we  found several complaints about all these devices offered by other mobile companies let we see how this service is reviewed by the consumers.
